spokesperson says his condition has improved and he has been moved from intensive care. mike is standing by live at the hospital. >> reporter: a bit of welcome news as the former president is ending his time in the intensive care unit. that his condition continues to improve. a lost reason for optimism. he spent shy of a week in the intensive care it was described as a stubborn fever he had a difficult time shaking. nasty case of bronchitis that had the president hospitalized since the end of november. the spokespeople working with bush people have been optimistic throughout this process and his condition improves, all the way while taking the fact that he is an 88-year-old man sick. and noting the fact he is laughing and joking with the staff. even pointing out that yesterday at one point he was sing weigh the hospital staff. you know he got a pick me up from the oakridge boys fan and they sang a song to him. doctors feeling that his condition are so fragile they need to monitor him in the intensive care. >> gregg: it's a good sign when you are singing to the nurses. mike, thanks. >> gr

meteorologist mike seidel is in oklahoma city this evening. >> reporter: on this christmas night, a massive storm is causing travel headaches for millions producing and dumping snow as far south as texas late this afternoon and still putting down rare christmas tornadoes in the deep south. look at this rain and wind. this is storm chaser video near mcneal, mississippi, where a tornado reportedly touched down this afternoon. there are reports of injuries and damage. and there is a rare christmas snowfall hitting dallas. it's bad news on the roads, signs warning of icy conditions. at least three reported tornadoes touched down across texas today causing lots of damage and leaving thousands without power. thunderstorm winds toppled this tree onto a pick-up truck in the houston area, killing the driver. no fatalities but plenty of clean-up this morning in oklahoma city following this massive pile-up. 21 cars and tractor-trailers crashed, slipping on roads coated with freezing rain. not just wind and ice, but snow is pounding parts of the west. in northern california, near lake tahoe, an avalanc

from mike -- go to mike from the independent line. caller: i would like to say that this fiscal cliff is a charade. it is promoted by the media. it has nothing to do with fixing our economy. the president has had an opportunity to go to the g-7 or the 20 and explain that western civilization is in debt so far that it is never going to get out of it unless we abandon these world trade rules, everybody go home to their own country, and do with the need to do to get back on the even keel with their financing. host: are using the u.s. should pull back from its international commitments and focus more on -- more on home? caller: i would suggest that other western countries do the same thing. the president should have his staff identify the most labour intensive products that we purchased here in the u.s. and stop importing them. he should say, for example, the automotive parts and automobiles -- six months from now, he should say, we're not going to allow any imports. the creek investors -- greedy investors will go to work and start making plans and getting plants to fill that void. by tha

the shootings in connecticut mike huckabee said it was because we removed god from schools. other people thought that was ridiculous. but there's a, you know, you can look at congress and why can't we get anything done? but the bottom line is we can't get anything done. we can't make big decision anymore. at least it seems that way. and so the debate is not necessarily if we're on track, but who do we get back? how do we fix it? and that's i think where the debate is. >> u know, whenever we get into pessimistic moods i always think of my favorite churchill line that americans always do the right thing after first exhausting all of the other possibilities. and we've been through a rough time. we had 9/11, we had two wars that we got bogged down in and it became very unpopular, then we had the greatest economic crash since the great depression, so yea, we haven't been in a great mood as a country, and i think we do think we need to fix things, and we do confront a global economy that's quite different from where we were 20 or 30 years ago, but i'm actually not a pessimist about this. i feel like w
